MEDIOCRITY LEADING THE PEOPLE II

Installation

Variable dimensions

2026

For years, Guatemalan soccer has been plagued by defeats, scandals, and broken promises, yet it remains one of the most emotionally charged phenomena in the country.

This installation takes Eugène Delacroix’s “Liberty Leading the People” as its starting point to imagine a scene where the epic is transformed into parody. Here there are no heroes: there are soccer players and fans crying, an image that speaks as much to the sport as it does to a society that allows men to show their vulnerability almost exclusively in the face of a soccer match.
